MVBT

MIAMI VALLEY BALLET THEATER

About: Miami Valley Ballet Theater, which occupied a prominent corner of the former Journal News Building at Third and Court St. in downtown Hamilton, is located in space that was formerly the printing floor for the Journal News paper. This project is a lynchpin of downtown redevelopment and our continuing focus on the arts. MVBT’s mission is to engage the community in the art of dance and cultivate a love for movement for all ages. The space created by CDA, and it’s location in downtown, supports that mission. Taking advantage of the huge expanse of windows in both the large and small studios, dancers now have natural and controlled light. A view into the studio at night through these windows, while the dancers are pirouetting across the floor, is breathtaking! The sprung dance floor provides a great environment for all ages and types of dance. The comfortable waiting area has furniture that provides a punch of color and the check-in desk features corrugated aluminum panels which mimic the metal accent panels that wrap the space. Neutral walls of stained plywood with industrial fasteners calm the environment and fabric wrapped display boards add color and pattern while providing a place for class and community news. Vertical exterior MVBT banners were designed and added to the building to clearly identify that the arts have a home in downtown Hamilton.

MVBT eventually grew into a larger space in 2017. CDA designed the new space based on design work provided for the former location.
