What We Did

Due to enrollment increases, a comprehensive renovation and addition project was completed to add grade 6 students to four existing 7/8 middle schools.

Mike led the effort for CDA, in partnership with Schorr Architects, to support the district’s 2018 bond issue efforts to secure their portion of the funding for these projects. The District is in the Expedited Local Partnership Program (ELPP) with the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission. Mike led community meetings to present preliminary design schemes and budgets for the projects and the levy successfully passed. He continued to be a primary liaison between the design team, the District, and the public throughout the project.

Cindy and Mike led the CDA team in programming and design of all spaces and conducted extensive meetings with each group of staff and end users at each school. Media Centers received a special focus and were designed with open access to lounge seating areas and accessible technology. Creating a template of spaces with equity between schools in mind, the interiors team then developed a unified color scheme and aesthetic for all four buildings and created a new furniture package for all buildings, which included gaining an understanding of existing furniture to be reused. The new furniture was publicly bid on budget and the furniture installation process was supervised by CDA. Presentations to the School Board were made regularly and included a series of 3D images, color and finish samples, floor plans and budgets. All four buildings present a colorful and vibrant atmosphere for learning and both Worthingway and Perry/Phoenix meet LEED 4.0 requirements.
