What We Did
An Appalachian school district’s daring experiment in economic integration is supported by two new elementary schools.
Superintendent Dr. Tom Gibbs had a goal of bringing a diverse community of learners together by rethinking the makeup of the elementary schools in his district. As a result, CDA led the effort for pre-bond issue Masterplan services to support the successful passage of a bond issue which created two new 400 student elementary schools that would replace the four existing schools. Moving forward, and in partnership with Schorr Architects, CDA led the effort for Schematic Design, Project Management, and Interior Design for these projects.
With additional funding from OFCC under the ELPP program, in addition to the Morrison Gordon Elementary and East Elementary Schools, renovation of existing Plains Elementary 4/6 and renovation of Athens 7/8 Middle School were part of the program. The new schools meet LEED Version 4 requirements.
Mike is currently working on Planning and Design for a new Athens High School.
